And Multivario tank bag electrification kit

Tank BagRepaired tank bag elastic

The photograph above, left, shows BMW's Multivario tank bag for the R1100RT and R1150RT motorcycles. I use a folded towel—matching the color of the bike—beneath it to protect the paint from being scratched. This also means I always have a towel with me.

Does your Multivario tank bag need repairs? Contact Multivario Tank Bag Repair for service. The photo above, right, shows replacement elastic strips from this shop. Because they are much stronger, they are far superior to the stock straps on a new tank bag! The next time I purchase a new tank bag I will send it in immediately for new elastic straps.

Tank Bag Electrification Kit

The photo above shows BMW's Tank Bag Electrification Kit (BMW part no. 71 60 1 469 870), which provides three accessory sockets and a map light mounted on the back of the Multivario tank bag. One of the sockets is inside the tank bag for use in charging a cell phone while you are riding. This kit is especially useful to R1150RT owners because the socket on the dashboard of the R1100RT is no longer available on the R1150RT.

Left photo above: The cable from the electrified tank bag can be run under the seat so it doesn't hang out by the left knee. I installed small, flat two-pole plugs in the line so the tank bag can be easily removed. Radio Shack offers these plugs (270-026), but only with 22AWG wire. J. C. Whitney also sells them (SKU #12ZX2190T), wire size unknown. A better source is any Ace Hardware store (SKU #8037756) at $1.49 each with 18AWG wire. Your Ace Hardware store probably does not stock this part, but you can ask the staff there to special order it for you.

Center photo above: The electified tank bag cable can then be plugged into one of the two sockets above the left passenger footpeg.

Right photo above: Click here for an inexpensive “R/V Roof Connector” that some can use instead of the full electrification kit. Or it can be used for a sanitary entrance to the tank bag, unlike the left photo above. You can obtain BMW sockets from Powerlet accessories to complete such an installation and provide as many sockets as you need for the accessories you use.

The photograph above, left, shows RKA's tank bag for the BMW K1200LT motorcycle. Because RKA tank bags are so well padded, I have not needed to use a towel under it to protect the paint.

Tank Bag

This photograph shows the classic Harro tank bag for the slash-5 and other models, here it is mounted on a Granada red 1973½ R75/5. Note the “R/V Roof Connector” used to electrify this tank bag.
